Before getting my full tyre change this summer, I decided to shop around for the best deal and to make a judgment about the kind of people to do the job. I don’t like getting wheels chipped when changing tyres and being told ‘its one of those things, it just happens sometimes’. No. It doesn’t just happen sometimes. It happens if not enough care is taken. I like to know someone will care for my wheels in spite of doing what is a very brutal kind of exercise taking off and putting on fresh tyres. I landed on Best Tyres tucked away in Verney Street, Exeter. Arranged a convenient time and they were quickly onto the job. My wheels were balanced across the width of the wheel too. What I particularly liked was the attention given to other parts of the car whilst the tyres were being changed. It seems that unlike others, Best Tyres, run by Andy Rooker, & Dave, routinely look out for any other problems with the running gear. Their guys are a bit of a surprise. Makes me think of Williams & Glyn with this distinctive kind of service that's not sold to you with fanfare and posters everywhere. They went under my car and gave it a test to see everything was secure and as it should be, which really gives confidence, especially if you have an MOT coming up. They saw I had a build up of surface rust on my hubs, which of course is the bane of our lives with alloys on steel hubs and removed it. We really need a technologically advanced rapid painting solution for this kind of problem. The elusive thing that is as simple as a brush over and the hubs miraculously turn grey. So, after they cleaned the surface rust up on the hubs, they checked my wheel bearings were OK. But in the end what I liked most was the careful torqueing of the wheel bolts. I have been to several places that don’t do it. They just use their gun however it is set. So, what did I see here? I saw a small team of people that care about what they do. As mundane as tyres seem to you and I; a miserable purchase that puts quite a big hole in your pocket if your replacing a whole set, this team was really great. You can see Kwik Fit just round the corner. I just wonder what its like competing with them. All I can say is there is no competition on service and the price was right. For tyre changes right in the heart of Exeter city centre, it seems to me that Best Tyres beats the rest. And for what you really need to know; they protect the rims when using their machine. There was no extra charges for all this service. That’s a very good reason for supporting a worthy independent. Thanks Andy and guys. Professional job. By the way, I was not paid or induced to write this review.F
